Spring Daffodils

"Finally, finally SPRING!

The beginning sketches of Daffodils

The daffodils are in full bloom in my garden here in Pennsylvania. The bright yellow color is so welcoming.  I love to pick a bouquet of daffies and bring them into the house. It's a sign that the garden season has really started! I took the vase into my studio and enjoyed drawing them and adding the color - yellows, greens and creams.

They are  blooming at the same time as the grape hyacinths, primroses, forget-me-knots, and early tulips. The combination of the classic blue and yellow is stunning in the garden, especially when planted "en masse". Many of these different daffodil varieties were gifts from other gardeners. It is a nice reminder of them. It is always fun to share plants."

Folk Artist Diane Ulmer Pedersen - Joins Pamela Gladding.com

It is hard to believe that I have now been painting in a folk art style for over half of my life. What seemed like an experiment at the start seems now like a natural drawing together of many threads of my life; my traditional art style, my faith, and my fascination with our artistic and cultural history. Having taken my first lessons at the Philadelphia Art Museum before entering grade school, I can't remember life before art. I went on to earn a B.F.A. from Denison University. Then while working in an antique and decorating shop, I began painting naive portraits of children (real and imaginary).

In researching the portraits, I encountered other folk art forms: landscapes, still lifes, theorem paintings, stenciling and faux graining, needlework, sculpture, scherenschnitte, etc. I became fascinated with the stylizations, the colors, the textures, and the crackled and aged finishes. The feeling of peace, light-heartedness, and friendly openness I found there resonated with me.

Is Spring Your Favorite Time of Year!

Is Spring your favorite time of year?  It is mine!! Not only is there the proliferation of all the new strong color on the emerging shoots of my perennials, and on the buds of all the deciduous trees.. but there is the music of the birds.
Are you a birdwatcher also? I can't claim to know many of their songs, but a few stand out to me every year.  One of my favorites is the chatty catbird.. and the mellifluous song sparrow.

Every morning when I am on a walk with our two bouvier des flandres dogs, Madeline and Fion, I am greeted by the carbird sitting high in the native cherry tree by the edge of the meadow.  I think of her as a chatty old lady busily telling everyone of the news of the day.

The song sparrow on the other hand, is pure Mozart to my ears.  They always build a nest in the dwarf barberry bush.  The catbird and song sparrow were part of the inspiration of these new pieces.
If you visit my website at www.pamelagladding.com
you will find many cards that feature birds.
 Happy watching and listending!!
Pamela

August doesn't have a holiday

August is one of those months that we don't have a holiday. So we have to work all month without looking forward to that long weekend in which a holiday gives us.

But it doesn't mean you can't send someone a Thinking of You greeting card. So let me show you the greeting cards that you can send to your family and friends for the month of August. Of course there are always birthdays in every month... so don't forget to send a fun birthday cake ecard... the will love lighting their candles, blowing them out and when all is finished clean the plate and then they can start all over again.

August is also a month that we can enjoy the outdoors with our family and friends.. So send your family and friends an invitation to get together, get that grill hot with a few burgers and hot dogs. Stay in touch this August by sending greeting cards to your family and friends.
